News from the Hill…

At the beginning of the year the legislature set out to complete the session in 80 days.  We will reach the 80th day on March 31 and it appears that the legislature will end its business for the year.  We were told that the goal is to finish on Friday, March 26.  However, there are many budget bills to be passed and many questions remain on how the budget is going to be balanced.

Fox News to the Hill…

The Public Safety Committee passed SF 2197 this week that dealt with a problem that happened in Southwest Iowa.  Representative Rich Anderson, Clarinda(R) filed a bill to correct the problem in 2009, however the bill never saw the light of day until Bill O’Reilly aired the problem on his show the O’Reilly Factor that airs on Fox News.

News from the Hill…

The people of Iowa are still waiting for the legislature to act on the definition of marriage.  Last year, the majority parties’ excuse was there just was not enough time to have that the debate.  This year the majority party leaders are using the excuse they would not allow debate on bills that do not deal with solving the budget problems that exist. However, let me share a few of the bills that have passed the Iowa House this last week.
