This week there has been a mixture of limited floor debate, sub-committee work and committee work.  On Tuesday evening we debated HF 2110, which would allow the spouse of a military member to receive unemployment benefits for voluntarily quitting their job if the reason for quitting due to the relocation of the military member by the military.  I voted against this bill because it was poorly written and too broad in its coverage.  This bill could have been a bi-partisan bill if it had went through the proper committee and would have been more narrowly defined.  HF 2110 passed with 55 yes and 44 no votes.

Budget busting ideas and debt

House Republicans' Jobs Plan

As we went through the second week of the 2010 legislative session, House Republicans reached across the aisle to work with House Democrats to implement our jobs plan.

80,000 Iowans were out of work at the beginning of 2009. Currently, we’re approaching 115,000 Iowans out of work.  In 2009, runaway state government passed budget-busting ideas and bonded its way into debt all in the name of “job creation”, only to end up with even more Iowans out of work.

Two weeks into the condensed 2010 legislative session and the pace of activity is moving rapidly. Most of the action this session will be in direct response to the state’s severe fiscal condition that has resulted from three years of fiscally irresponsible overspending by Governor Culver and legislative Democrats.

Ultra-leftist MoveOn.Org in July launched a broad-scale attack against Gov. Sarah Palin. In an e-mail to their members, and a snarky web video on their site, they unleashed.

Attend your local GOP precinct caucus this Saturday

This Saturday at 1 p.m., I will be joining other Republicans in my neighborhood to participate in our precinct caucus. While Erin and I will be at the Parkview Middle School in Ankeny, I hope you will be doing the same in your community. The precinct caucuses are your opportunity to speak up about the issues important to you and your family. The ideas you share on Saturday will help shape the Republican Party platform, which is a statement of our values and beliefs for the 2010 elections.

Finally, Health Care Plan worth supporting

E-mail Print PDF

You have heard it from every conservative, nearly every Republican, a bunch of independents and even a handful of Democrats: “NO!”

No ObamaCare…No government-run solutions under the guise of “reform”…No higher taxes to pay for it…No bureaucrats should decide my grandmother’s fate…
